DogsLetter No. 07 — July 2026

July: the routine settles in.
And that's exactly what we wanted.

1,508 bracelets. 15,080 meals funded. A quiet month, and our furry friends are doing well. Except for some bad news about one of them.

July 2026

This month was chill. And that's good too.

After June and setting up the association, we needed to catch our breath a little.

That's what July was. Friends visiting us in Mauritius, feeding runs flowing naturally one after another, and overall our furry friends are doing well, the routine is running. And honestly, that's really good news.

Because that's what Feedogs is about, deep down. Not just the big moments. Mostly the day-to-day, night after night, whether it's a record month or a quiet one. This month was quiet, and we loved it.

We do still have some bad news to share with you this month. We'll tell you about it below. Because the street is brutal, and we will never hide that from you.

1,508 bracelets this month. Not a record. But 55,500 meals funded since January. That's crazy when you think about it.

On the ground, July 2026

The numbers

55,500 meals. Since day one.

Seven months. Two of us. On the dirt roads of northern Mauritius, every evening, no exceptions.

Sad news

Timide. We'll never forget her.

We can't write this letter without telling you about Timide.

You've seen her in our videos and photos. A stray dog, with her two sisters. Her name was Timide ("Shy") because that's exactly what she was — always hanging back, always watching before stepping forward. We'd been feeding her for months. She was very slowly starting to trust us.

Timide

Timide. We miss her.

This month, we found out she'd been hit by a pickup truck. The tenant of the house next to her area found her in the morning. He called his neighbors. They went to bury her early that same morning. Good people, who knew right away to take care of her.

We didn't see it. We weren't there. And that's also the reality on the ground — sometimes we only learn the bad news after the fact, when we go to feed Timide and her buddies.
The street is beautiful in some ways, brutal in others. Timide paid the price, and it really hit us hard. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do — and at the same time, they hurt.

Her two sisters are still there. We keep feeding them. We always will.

Rest easy, Timide. 🐾 You were loved until the very end.

New encounter

A new pack. All of them fearful.

At the end of the month, we had a first encounter. A new pack, still very wary of us — which is completely normal. To them, we're strangers who show up with food. It takes time.

We don't have names for them yet; it's way too early. We keep coming back, we set the bowls down at a distance, we sit, we wait. You'll see them regularly in upcoming photos. For now, we're giving them time to get used to us.

You can't force trust. One night at a time.

It's growing

People on the island joining the adventure.

This month, we met people in Mauritius who are going to join the Feedogs adventure. People with the same vision, the same love for these dogs.

Encounters that really lift us up and make us want to keep building something bigger here. It's not official yet, not formalized yet. But it's taking shape and we're really happy about it. We'll tell you more once it's concrete.

An important decision

About on-the-ground visits. We'll be straight with you.

Many of you reach out when you're visiting Mauritius to join us on the ground. And honestly, it's always a pleasure to meet you, to put a face to a name, to share this with you.

But we made a decision this month. We'll no longer be welcoming visitors directly on the ground. We had one bad experience — just one — but it reminded us of something important: many of these dogs are traumatized. This is long, fragile work, built night after night. One unexpected presence, one clumsy reaction, and weeks of trust can collapse. We also don't want this to turn into a tourist activity, because that's not what it is at all.

To the people who've joined us in the past and were absolutely wonderful — you know who you are. Thank you, truly, from the bottom of our hearts.

The ground is our daily life. Not an attraction. And that's exactly why it works.
